HC Deb 21 July 1988 vol 137 c747W
14. Mr. Alexander

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he is taking to alleviate the shortage of magistrates' court clerks in the area covered by the clerk to the justices of Mansfield, Worksop, East Retford, Newark and Southwell magistrates' courts.

Mr. John Patten

I understand that the joint negotiating committee (JNC) for magistrates' courts staff will take into account information on recruitment and retention when considering the pay settlement for 1988. We shall consider very carefully whatever proposals the JNC puts forward.

51. Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is taking to improve the training of juvenile court magistrates' clerks.

Mr. John Patten

I refer my hon. Friend to the reply I gave to her question on 18 April. Action is being taken to recruit staff to the new Home Office unit mentioned in that reply.
