HC Deb 21 July 1988 vol 137 cc795-6W
Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a table in theOfficial Report showing for each health board area the number of whole-time employed staff and number of hours worked of (a) hospital nurses, (b) midwives, (c) health visitors, (d) district nurses, (e) ancillary staff, (f) ambulance personnel and (g) adminstrative and clerical staff for each year from 1974 to the latest year for which figures are available.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

No information is held centrally about actual numbers of hours worked by health board staff. Information about whole-time employed staff could be provided for each health board for the time period specified only at disproportionate cost. Information about whole-time employed staff in the country as a whole, along with whole-time equivalent staff numbers for each health board is to be found in Scottish Health Statistics, published annually by information and statistics division of the Common Services Agency in Scotland, copies of which are available in the Library.
