Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish a table in theOfficial Report showing for each area health authority the number of whole-time employed staff and number of hours worked of (a) hospital nurses, (b) midwives, (c) health visitors, (d) district nurses, (e) ancillary staff, (f) ambulance personnel and (g) administrative and clerical staff for each year since 1974 to the latest year for which figures are available.

The information available is given in the table. Staff-in-post figures are derived primarily for NHS payroll records and a break down for nursing and midwifery into the requested categories(a) to (d) is not considered to be sufficiently reliable. Information prior to 1977 is not available by district on a comparable basis to that shown in the table:
