HC Deb 21 July 1988 vol 137 c764W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster if he will publish in theOfficial Report the British content of Amstrad computers measured on the standard used by the European Economic Community for imposing anti-dumping duties on screwdriver-assembled products; and what are the differences in the standard for this computer as set by each European Economic Comunity country.

Mr. Alan Clark

The sourcing of Amstrad's computers is a matter for the company. As there are no anti-dumping duties on computers, the criteria used by the Commission of the European Communities to assess whether assembly operations are designed to circumvent such duties are not relevant. Computers must comply with the national safety standards set by EC member states which differ from each other to varying degrees.
