HC Deb 20 July 1988 vol 137 cc603-4W
Mr. Ground

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science which local education authorities in England have(a) ceased and (b) continued to provide milk in schools since 1 April 1988.

Mr. Dunn

This information is not available at present. It will be collected in the October 1988 schools meals census, the results of which will be published in the spring of 1989.

Mr. Ground

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what guidance he gives to school governors or head teachers on the possibility of procuring school milk from European Community sources where a local education authority does not make arrangements to provide such milk.

Mr. Dunn

This is primarily a matter for my right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. I understand that information on the operation of the European Community milk subsidy scheme is circulated annually to LEAs by the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce. It is for each authority to draw the scheme to the attention of the schools in its area.
