To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will cause an analysis to be made of the disincentives to the release of surplus land by public bodies.

Mr. Trippier

My Department's programme of research in the current financial year includes an examination of the cost-effectiveness of various policy measures for bringing vacant land into use. The examination is expected to cover any factors that hinder this process.
