HC Deb 20 July 1988 vol 137 cc662-3W
Mr. Fearn

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the number of psychiatric hospitals in each region for each year from 1974 to April 1988 and the number of beds in each hospital.

Mrs. Currie

The table shows the number of National Health Service mental illness and mental handicap hospitals and units by each health authority in England for each year between 1974 and 1986, the latest year for which information is available. The table shows the average daily number of available beds by region, as it would incur disproportionate cost to provide from central information the number of beds in each hospital.
