HC Deb 20 July 1988 vol 137 cc629-30W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, under the arrangements for police checks on those seeking work with substantial access to children, the police will be expected to notify the employer that the individual was known to be homosexual, if the individual has no convictions, cautions or bindovers.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Under paragraph 7 of Home Office circular 45/1986, information other than convictions, cautions and bindovers may only be released on the authority of an officer at assistant chief constable level or above. I understand that information that a person was known to be a homosexual would not on its own justify disclosure under the arrangements for police checks on those seeking to work with children.
