To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information he has as to the average audience figures achieved for the Gaelic programmes "Prosbaig" "Dotaman" and "Crann Tara" for(a) Gaelic speakers, and (b) all viewers.

[pursuant to his reply, 14 June 1988, c. 97]: The BBC and Grampian Television have produced the following information for all viewers; there are no separate figures available for Gaelic speakers.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information he has as to the average audience figures achieved for the three most popular Welsh language programmes on S4C amongst(a) Welsh speakers, and (b) all viewers.

[pursuant to his reply 14 June 1988, c. 97]: The following information has been provided by S4C. The figures supplied are average audience figures for all viewers; separate figures for Welsh speakers are available only for a limited range of programmes. Several single event programmes, as opposed to regularly broadcast programmes, achieved viewing figures considerably higher than those given here. We understand that an average of 366,000 Welsh speaking viewers watched S4C at some point each week during the period January-May 1988.
