Mr. Madden

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applications for entry clearance on grounds of special hardship on(a) all grounds and (b) grounds connected with an asylum application were (i) received and (ii) granted, by country, during 1987 and the first quarter of 1988.

Mr. Renton

The number of entry clearance applications where special hardship is a consideration is not separately identifiable in the returns sent by entry clearance posts to the Home Office.
