HC Deb 20 July 1988 vol 137 c612W
Mr. Page

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what further steps he is taking to reduce interference problems caused by non-approved citizens' hand radio apparatus.

Mr. Butcher

I have tabled an order under section 7 of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1967 banning the import, sale, manufacture or possession of 27 MHz citizens' band apparatus which cannot legally be used, and also updated regulations requiring that 934 MHz CB equipment conforms to the appropriate specifications. The wide-spread sale of unapproved apparatus has led to interference to authorised radio services including, most seriously, to emergency services. The introduction of these measures will ensure that unapproved equipment is removed from the market and that the range of approved equipment covers the new CEPT CB radio service, in harmony with the rest of Europe.
