HC Deb 19 July 1988 vol 137 c540W
26. Mr. Rowe

To ask: the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he has any plans to formalise the current informal arrangements under which some teachers in scarcity subjects are able to refresh their knowledge by working with local firms.

Mrs. Rumbold

My right hon. Friend is keen to encourage all teachers to gain up-to-date knowledge and experience of the world of business and industry. He commends those who have already done so, and those in business and education who are working to make this possible. He has no plans to prescribe formal arrangements. This objective can best be achieved through the development of contacts and arrangements between schools, business and industry at local level.
