To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list the number of children taking school meals in each education authority for each year since 1979.

Statistics on the take-up of school meals in each of the local education authorities in England since 1979 are available in the annual school meals census, copies of which are available in the Library. Information was not collected in 1985 because of teachers' industrial action.
