HC Deb 18 July 1988 vol 137 c435W
Mr. Tredinnick

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has received from the Order of St. John seeking funds for emergency programmes at St. John ophthalmic hospital, Jerusalem.

Mr. Chris Patten

In May the Lord Prior of the hospital approached me for assistance in connection with financial problems partly caused by the need for the provision of emergency programmes in Gaza. In response I have offered the hospital £100,000 this financial year towards the costs of its outreach programmes and emergency clinics in Gaza. This is the third grant we have made to the hospital since 1984.
