To ask the Secretary of State for Employment on which dates in each of the last five years Health and Safety Executive inspectors visited the factory of Special Steels Limited, Bacon Lane, Sheffield. if, for each such visit he will summarise the action taken by the executive; how many notified or reported accidents or dangerous occurrences have occurred at the factory in each of the last five years; and for each such notified or reported accident what action was taken by the Health and Safety Executive on receipt of the notification or report.

Inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have made three visits to Special Steels Limited, Bacon Lane, Sheffield during the last five years.

On 30 April 1985, HSE inspectors carried out an accident investigation and afterwards sent a letter to the company. On 20 March 1987, inspectors made a preventive inspection visit followed by verbal advice. On 24 June 1988 a visit was made to investigate a fatal accident and a prohibition notice was issued.

No other accidents or incidents have been reported to HSE during the last five years.
