To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what extra amounts were paid out on the contracts for the demolition of Spandau prison over and above the agreed tender price;

(2) what is the current position on the contract for the demolition of Spandau prison; what was the outturn time period and the outturn price; and if he will make a statement;

(3) what was the total amount of the successful tender for the demolition of Spandau prison; and what was the time period quoted in the tender.

Mr. Chope

The amount of the successful tender was DM1,696,286 and the contract period was two months. The work took six and a half weeks and was completed on 4 November 1987. The outturn cost was DM1,658,963 and the final account was settled on 19 November. No extra amounts were paid on the one contract. The full cost was met by the German Federal Government.
