Dr. Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list for each rating authority(a) the non-domestic rate poundage for 1988–89 and (b) the amount to be received from non-domestic rates in 1988–89.

Mr. Ridley

I have today placed in the Library a table containing the requested information. The estimated non-domestic rate yield was calculated by multiplying each poundage by the non-domestic rateable value in that area.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if, assuming the implementation of the proposals in the Local Government Finance Bill, he will list what each local authority would have received from the national non-domestic rate pool in 1988–89 based on a national non-domestic rate poundage of 239.5p.

Non-domestic rates are expected to yield about £8.9 billion in 1988–89. Under the proposals contained in the Local Government Finance Bill this would be distributed to local authorities as £245 per adult.
