HC Deb 18 July 1988 vol 137 cc453-4W
Mr. Gale

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is now in a position to report the outcome of his review of hon. Members' representations in immigration cases; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hurd

Yes. The review, which I announced on 16 November has now been completed. I have today placed in the Library a copy of revised draft guidelines for handling these representations and my hon. Friend the Minister of State is writing to all Members enclosing a copy of the draft guidelines. There will be an opportunity to debate the draft guidelines before their introduction, which we hope will be around the end of the year.

Separate but similar draft guidelines are also being issued today by my right hon. and learned Friend the Foreign Secretary in connection with Members' representations about the operation of the immigration control overseas.
