§ Mr. ButcherUnder the Films Act 1985 British Screen Finance Ltd. receives Government funds for investment in 439W film production, and since January 1986 has supported 40 films. In addition, 30 projects have received Government finance under the development scheme managed by the National Film Development Fund.
Matters relating to radio and television programme making are primarily for my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary. However, my Department pursues a range of policies to encourage enterprise and an open and competitive economy, which apply to all industrial sectors, including those referred to by the hon. Member.
On 28 March 1988 my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Employment, together with my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary and my right hon. and noble Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, referred questions as to possible restrictive labour practices in the film production, television and broadcasting industries to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission, under the provisions of section 79 of the Fair Trading Act 1973.
