Mr. Ron Davies

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what further initiatives have been taken by his Department to promote unity of the farming unions in Wales; and if he will make a statement.

My Department is providing both unions with such information and other assistance as they may find useful in their current exploratory discussions aimed at greater unity.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what information he has on initiatives taken by the Farmers Union of Wales and the National Farmers Union in Wales, respectively, in the current year to promote unity; and what measures are being proposed.

I understand that their discussions aimed at establishing closer links between the two bodies are continuing.
