HC Deb 18 July 1988 vol 137 c512W
Mr. Matthew Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy, pursuant to his answer to the hon. Member for Berkshire, East (Mr. MacKay) on the Energy Efficiency Office of 9 June,Official Report, column 635, if he will outline the evidence of wide public appreciation of the potential value of energy surveys upon which his decision was based.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Our day-to-day contacts, many of which are through the Department's regional energy efficiency officers, indicated a general increased awareness of the value of surveys. We also took account of research undertaken by the European Commission in the north-west and north-east of England, and the evidence of our follow-up inquiries of applicants who had benefited from grant-aided surveys.
