To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what studies have been undertaken by his Department on the likely effects on traffic patterns of the introduction of toll roads; and if he will make a statement.

For London only, the Government have commissioned assessment studies into four particular areas.

It is open to the consultants, as a part of these studies, to consider proposals to charge for the use of specific roads or locations.
