HC Deb 15 July 1988 vol 137 c366W
Mr. Geraint Howells

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make it his policy to provide additional resources to assist local education authorities to fulfil their duty to provide further education with regard to the needs of persons with special educational needs.

Mr. Dunn

No. The Education Reform Bill, as amended, makes explicit, but does not extend, the responsibility of local education authorities to have regard to special educational needs in securing the provision of adequate facilities for further education. It will continue to be for local education authorities to decide their own spending priorities within existing planned provision.
