HC Deb 15 July 1988 vol 137 c367W
Mr. Matthew Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the level of investment in new school buildings and the repair of existing school buildings in Cornwall.

Mr. Dunn

In 1988–89 the schools element of the Cornwall authority's prescribed allocation for capital expenditure on county and voluntary controlled schools was £6.274 million. This allocation, which covered 78 per cent. of the authority's submitted plans, reflects the Government's awareness and appreciation of the authority's problems. In addition, Cornwall was allocated £145,000 in respect of work at voluntary aided schools.
