HC Deb 15 July 1988 vol 137 c394W
Mr. David Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether Grampian Public Transport Company, Lothian Public Transport Company, Strathclyde Public Transport Company and. Tayside Public Transport Company will be eligible to bid for any parts of the Scottish Bus Group when it is privatised; and if he will make a statement.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Two of the main objectives of the privatisation of the Scottish Bus Group are to increase competition and create new Scottish-based private sector companies. These objectives would not be served by the purchase of Scottish Bus Group subsidiaries by local authority-owned public transport companies.
