HC Deb 15 July 1988 vol 137 cc399-400W
Mr. Barry Field

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prison facilities are counted as a national resource on the lines of C wing and the segregation unit at Parkhurst; and how many such facilities have received Butler trust awards.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

There is a unit comparable to C wing, Parkhurst, at Lincoln prison and a third is planned to open at Hull in November 1988. These units cater for prisoners presenting control problems which cannot be dealt with in normal long-term prison conditions. There are special security units for prisoners who require the highest security conditions, at Leicester and Parkhurst. A third will open later this year at Full Sutton prison. The work of the staff at Parkhurst C wing has been recognised by a Butler trust award.
