To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he has made any response to the proposals made on 9 June by the European Economic Community Environment Commissioner that member states routinely provide nuclear safety details of operations at nuclear plants to the European Commission.

Mr. Michael Spicer

On 9 June 1988 the Commission of the European Communities issued a proposal for a Council directive on informing the population about health protection measures to be applied and steps to be taken in the event of a radiological emergency. These proposals have yet to be discussed.
