Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what special measures he will take to ensure that University college, north Wales, avoids insolvency and receives sufficient block grant to meet its existing commitments; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jackson

The UGC monitors the academic and financial plans of all the university institutions it funds. As appropriate, University college, north Wales will be eligible for assistance from the committee's special three-year £250 million restructuring programme.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list the block grant received by University college, north Wales, in real terms, for each of the years since 1978–79; and if he will make a statement.
