§ Mrs. CurrieAccording to provisional figures provided by the United Kingdom transplant service, the major rise in organ transplantation is continuing. The number of cadaveric transplants of kidneys, hearts, heart/lungs and livers performed on NHS-entitled patients in the United Kingdom is as follows:
Number 1 January 1987–30 June 1987 837 1 January 1988–30 June 1988 1,160 These figures reveal an increase of 39 per cent. in the number of transplants carried out. The factors contributing to this splendid achievement are described in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Canterbury (Mr. Brazier) on 14 June 1988 at columns 156–57.
