To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a further statement on the future of nurse education.

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a further statement on the timetable for the implementation of Project 2000.

Mr. Newton

The details and timetable for carrying forward Project 2000 are dependent on discussions with the statutory nursing bodies on a range of issues, which we are pursuing. We share the nursing bodies' view that a transition period of about 10 years will be necessary.
