HC Deb 12 July 1988 vol 137 c142W
Mr. Tony Lloyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if his Department has information relating to the driving experience of private vehicle drivers involved in motor accidents.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

The Department has made a study of accident involvement rates according to age. This shows that young drivers have a much higher accident involvement rate than the middle age group. The involvement rates rise again in old age.

I am placing copies of the report in the Library.

The Transport and Road Research Laboratory is currently undertaking a study of drivers with less than 10 years driving experience, in order to determine accident patterns for this group.

The results are due later this year.
