§ Mr. Tony LloydTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if his Department has information relating to the driving experience of private vehicle drivers involved in motor accidents.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe Department has made a study of accident involvement rates according to age. This shows that young drivers have a much higher accident involvement rate than the middle age group. The involvement rates rise again in old age.
I am placing copies of the report in the Library.
The Transport and Road Research Laboratory is currently undertaking a study of drivers with less than 10 years driving experience, in order to determine accident patterns for this group.
The results are due later this year.
