To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment his Department has made of average journey times from London to(a) Lowestoft, (b) Great Yarmouth and (c) Norwich by road; and what steps are being taken to improve them.

When new road schemes are appraised, the journey times on the old road, the new road and the surrounding network are examined in detail. Improvements in the times for long journeys, such as those specified, come from a number of separate schemes along the route. There is a continuing programme of improvements on the A 11 and A12.
