HL Deb 12 July 1988 vol 499 cc819-20WA
Lord Northfield

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will adopt more stringent measures to investigate and to control diseases in farmed deer in view of the implications for all deer of tuberculosis in farmed deer, as described in the Veterinary Record of 21st May 1988.

Baroness Trumpington

Veterinary inspectors of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food are already empowered to require by statutory notice that farmed deer which are or may be infected with tuberculosis be kept under control or confined. Importation of deer is also subject to veterinary controls. The possible need for further measures is under consideration.
