§ Mr. Peter BottomleyOur road programme includes 28 improvement schemes designed to improve the flow of traffic on motorways. The majority of these are junction improvements and widening schemes on existing motorways.
There are over 160 bypasses in the road programme some of which are designed to relieve traffic in city centres. Many other schemes also have a bypassing effect.
Roads in city centres are usually the responsibility of local highway authorities. We continue researching into improved methods of traflic management and driver guidance.
