HL Deb 11 July 1988 vol 499 c704WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What assessment they have made of the likely impact of the newly announced 15 per cent. reduction in grant-aid to district councils in Northern Ireland, in respect of community services; to what extent this will increase unemployment and lower the morale of law-abiding people engaged in self-help.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Northern Ireland Office (Lord Lyell)

Responsibility for community services rests with the 26 district councils. Detailed information on the impact of reduced levels of grant-aid is not held centrally and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. However the Association of Local Authorities and nine individual councils have made representations about the reductions in grant-aid.
