§ Mr. ButlerTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he has given consideration to invoking the provisions of the Plant Health (Great Britain) Order 1987 to avert the impact of American domestic wastes containing plant material.
§ Mr. Donald ThompsonThe Plant Health (Great Britain) Order 1987 prohibits the landing in Great Britain of a number of plants and plant pests from the United States, but does not specifically refer to the landing of domestic waste. Nevertheless, I recognise the possibility that domestic waste originating from the United States might contain banned material, with a consequent risk of introducing serious plant diseases into the United Kingdom, and I am naturally concerned that this should not happen.
