HC Deb 04 July 1988 vol 136 cc456-7W
48. Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Minister for the Arts what assessment he has made of the contribution of the arts to inward tourism to the United Kingdom.

Mr. Luce

A full estimate of the contribution of the arts to inward tourism will be published soon by the Policy Studies Institute, as part of a larger study. Its preliminary figures suggest that the level of expenditure by overseas tourists in Britain specifically induced by the arts was £1.5 billion in 1985–86.
