To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the progress of the work of the Institute of Hearing Research.

Mr. Jackson

I understand from the Medical Research Council that the programme of research at its institute of hearing research continues to progress well. The research conducted at the institute was last formally revised in 1985 when its work was found overall to be of a very high standard. The next formal review is due to take place early in 1989.
