HC Deb 04 July 1988 vol 136 c399W
Mr. Rooker

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on progress on the care and repair initiative in elderly home owners, giving details of the location of the centres, expenditure and numbers receiving help at the latest convenient date.

Mr. Waldegrave

My Department is part funding 62 agency services projects under the initiative launched in November 1986: 27 are supported by Care and Repair Ltd., 10 by the Anchor Housing Trust and the remainder by Neighbourhood Revitalisation Services. The locations of projects specifically aimed at assisting elderly homeowners are as follows. The Department's contribution to Care and Repair Ltd., and through it to individual projects, was £470,000 to 30 June 1988. By 31 March 1988, 2,354 inquiries had been received by projects, 2,024 of which have led to further action being taken, including work to properties. It is too early to say what the total cost of the completed works will be, but this information is being collected as part of the monitoring exercise conducted by Bristol university.
