HC Deb 04 July 1988 vol 136 c420W
22. Mr. John M. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what steps he is taking to promote energy efficiency among British cooling and freezing technology manufacturers.

Mr. Peter Morrison

My energy efficiency office has provided £3.4 million for research and development and demonstration projects on new energy efficient refrigeration technologies and the closely allied technologies of heat pumps. It has also published technical advice for users of refrigeration plant and supported development of a monitoring and targeting system for refrigerated food factories.

28. Mr. Jack

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on energy efficiency initiatives in the public sector.

Mr. Peter Morrison

The energy efficiency office supports a number of initiatives to improve energy management in the public sector. For example, I recently met energy managers from Government Departments. I told them I strongly supported their work, which presently includes the development of annual energy reports.

As Departments become more fully responsible for energy management and other accommodation matters, and gain access to other sources of expertise as well as the Property Services Agency, they will have a greater incentive to exercise effective control over their progress. I believe this must be a positive development.
