Home accidents to children under five years old using baby-walkers are recorded in the Department of Trade and Industry's home accident surveillance system (HASS) which covers a sample of accident and emergency (A and E) Departments in 20 hospitals in England and Wales.
The most recent five-year period for which HASS figures are available is 1982–86. In these years HASS recorded the following number of accidents:
