§ Mr. McAllionTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment he has made of the implications for medical aid to developing countries of the recent evidence showing that AIDS may be spread through a mother's milk.
§ Mr. EggarBreast feeding has important health benefits for mothers and children in developing countries. The role of breast milk in HIV transmission is not fully understood. The World Health Organisation has considered the issue with care and advises that for the present breast feeding should continue to be promoted and supported. I have placed a copy of the WHO statement on this subject in the Library of the House.
