§ 43. Mr. WilsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on Government policy for improving road communications in north Ayrshire.
§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonThe north of Ayrshire is served by two trunk roads, the A77 and the A78. On the A78 there are plans to bypass the towns of Ardrossan and Saltcoats. On the northern section of the A77, the Ayr road route is a joint central Government-regional authority project, which will provide an all-purpose dual carriageway between the centre of Glasgow and Ayrshire. Roads connecting with the trunk road network are the responsibility of the local roads authority, Strathclyde regional council.
