§ Mr. Peter BottomleyWe shall continue to develop the trunk road network to meet future traffic needs in a timely fashion. We have a large new construction and improvement programme which is regularly reviewed and to which further schemes are added as required. Each scheme within the programme undergoes continuous assessment to ensure that, when constructed, it will meet its required objectives. Responsibility for local roads rests with local highway authorities.
