To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list in theOfficial Report the official posts, paid and unpaid, that are in his gift; and for each post, if he will state the level of remuneration where appropriate.

Mr. Ridley

The appointments to public bodies for which my Department is responsible are shown in the HMSO publication "Public Bodies 1987", which gives information on the numbers of posts and the levels of remuneration. These appointments are made under a variety of arrangements, and I and my Department are involved in the appointments to varying extents.

In addition I make appointments to the following other bodies:

Architectural Heritage Fund: Five members—Unpaid

National House Building Council: Chairman—Unpaid

National Park Planning Boards and Committee: One third of the Members—Unpaid

Sutton Housing Trust: Four Trustees—Honorarium, £1,575

Dartmoor Steering Group: Chairman (appointed jointly with Secretary of State for Defence)—Unpaid

Parliamentary Boundary Commission: One Member—Unpaid

Building Research Establishment Panel of Visitors: Up to 15 members—Honorarium, £1,000

The Chequers Trust: One Trustee—Unpaid
