To ask the Secretary of State for Wales whether he has any change to announce in the cash limit for class XVII vote 8.

Subject to parliamentary approval of the necessary Supplementary Estimate, the cash limit for class XVII, vote 8 (Hospital and Community Health Services, etc, Wales) will be increased by £3,800,000 from £716,836,000 to £720,636,000. My right hon. Friend announced this increase in his written answer of 16 December 1987, at columns512 and 513, which should ensure that current levels of patient services are maintained without carrying forward a large burden of expenditure liabilities to 1988–89.

This increase will be charged to the reserve and therefore does not add to the public expenditure planning total.
