§ 81. Mr. DouglasTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the number of frigates and destroyers which are currently operational and available for duties within the area of operations of NATO.
§ Mr. Ian StewartThere are currently 48 destroyers and frigates in service with the Fleet, of which 41 are operational or engaged in preparing for service or trials or training. A number of these ships are at present deployed outside the NATO area but could be recalled for operations in support of NATO in the event of an emergency.
