HC Deb 26 January 1988 vol 126 c188W
61. Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what steps he has taken to satisfy himself that the tenders for the demountable rack offloading pickup system project were fairly assessed; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Sainsbury

The Ministry's assessments of the original DROPS competition have been exhaustively examined by Ministers and senior officials over more than four years. No evidence of bias or impropriety has been revealed. Additionally, as my hon. Friend will be aware, the Department has co-operated fully in the Comptroller and Auditor General's review of DROPS procurement which is now the subject of consideration by the Public Accounts Committee.
