HC Deb 26 January 1988 vol 126 cc129-30W
Mr. A. Cecil Walker

To ask the Attorney-General how the Northern Ireland Court Service ensures that the minimum amount of time elapses between bail requirements being completed and the papers being returned to the prison in order to ensure the speedy release of the person to whom bail was granted.

The Attorney-General

In almost all cases, completed documents are given to the police for delivery to the prison.

Occasionally, if prison warders are in the courts, they effect delivery. Court staff have also delivered documents and, in the provincial areas, recourse has been made to the first-class postal system.

Mr. A. Cecil Walker

To ask the Attorney-General what has been the maximum length of time which has elapsed in any individual case relating to a male held on remand in Her Majesty's prison, Crumlin road, between bail requirements being completed and the actual release of the person who was granted bail.

The Attorney-General

This information is not readily available and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. If the hon. Member has a particular case in mind, I would be happy to look into it.
