§ Mr. McAllionTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many school boards would be created under his proposals contained in the consultative paper "School Management and the Role of Parents" in(a) the Tayside regional council area and (b) the Dundee district authority area.
§ Mr. Michael ForsythConsultation on the proposals in "School Management and the Role of Parents" showed that there was a widespread wish to have a separate school board for each primary, secondary and special school in Scotland. In the conclusions we recently announced, we have agreed to meet that wish. There are 251 schools in the Tayside regional council area of which 73 are in the Dundee district; each would have its own board.
§ Mr. McAllionTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many representatives from Tayside regional 67W council would be required to take part in the meetings of the school boards proposed by his consultative paper "School Management and the Role of Parents".
§ Mr. Michael ForsythNo education authority representatives would be required to attend school board meetings. In the light of comments made by authorities in response to the consultative paper, the Government have concluded that education authorities should have a right, but not a duty, to be represented at school board meetings by a non-voting assessor.
